At around 15.00h Steven van Broeckhoven (F2) was announced as the winner of the first double elimination at the Rip Curl Prince of the Wind hosted by Flisvos Sportclub on Naxos, Greece.

There was big excitement about the final of the double elimination in the air the morning of day 2 of the EFPT finale 2009. The green flag went up for heat nr. 35 Steven van Broeckhoven (F2) against Andre Paskowski (Fanatic/North Sails). This heat was not only the final one of the first double elimination of the Prince of the Wind, it ment also a big step for the victory in the total season ranking. Both competitors had to pump hard to perform their moves. It was maybe Andre`s busy season - he was managing his video project „Four Dimensions“ plus doing all PWA freestyle and EFPT events - that made him not pumping as hard as Steven. The wind was to insufficient during the extended heat so Race director Tom Hartmann canceled the heat and the competition was on stand by, which boosted the tension sky high.

The wind conditions were not competition suitable but in the gusts ok for sailsaizes about 5,4sqm. Following this situation the organisation put another Supersession on the schedule. It was set for 30 minutes, all riders on the water the best move of each riders counts. To accelerate the riders to a pleasant speed the Flisvos Sportclub crew provided a motor boot in the heat area. A switch Cachoo one handed from Davy Scheffers (Gaastra/Tabou)and a one handed Bob by Dieter van der Eyken (Starboard/Severne) placed the young kids ex aequo on third place. Edvan Souza de Pedro (RRD/Simmer Style) finished 2nd doing a one handed Shaka, and Steven van Broeckhoven (F2) won the Supersession at the Rip Curl Prince of the Wind with a Burner Diabolo.

The crowd at the beach was still blown away by the action from the supersession when the race direction decided to give the final between Andre and Steven another chance. This time the heat brought a result. Paskowski and van Broeckhoven both knew this is „the heat“. Once more the dominating riders of the EFPT09 showed their best moves. Two riders sailing a different style of windsurfing, one powerful and very athletic, the other one clean yet stylish. In the end the Belgium rider Steven van Broeckhoven could convince the judges and took the win of the first double elimination at the Rip Curl Prince of the Wind hosted by Flisvos Sportclub.

From the 8th till the 11th of September the final event of the this years EFPT takes place in Greece on the Aegean island of Naxos. On day one of the EFPT finals 2009 at the Rip Curl Prince of Wind started in the middle of the night. Breakfast was scheduled for 6.30 a.m. . The majority of riders decided to start into the single elimination with an empty belly. But the wind was up and the single elimination got started very early.

Single Elimination:

Estonian Christopher Kalk missed the first minute of his heat, because he took a little nap at the beach. Nevertheless he passed over Greek Tasos Galanis in a close heat. The big surprise came in Kalk`s next heat, round 2 of the single elimination. The Estonian had an awesome heat and kicked out French Nicolas Akgazciyan.

Andraz Zan faced tourleader Steven van Broeckhoven and Yarden Meir fought against Andre Paskowski in the semi finals of the single elimination. In the middle of the semi-finals the organised Heli showed up and brought extra action in the heat area. The heli was flying superclose to the beachside. Yarden Meir and Andraz Zan ended up in the small final and Andre fought against Steven for the victoy in the first single elimination.

The current tourleader Steven from Belgium could even improve his performance in the final heat showing a perfect Culo and a Burner. Speaker Roberto Hofmann announced Steven van Broeckhoven as the winner of the Single elimination on thursday morning.

Double Elimination:

After the single elimination and a one hour lunch break the double elimination got started. Nicolas Akgazciyan was ambitious to correct his bad result in the morning and could win 2 more heats. The French, who was a favourite for the spectators finished on the 7th place in the Double.

Young Belgium rider Dieter van der Eyken was pushing himself to a new level of freestyle windsurfing, fighting his way through the double elimination with a sliding oriented newschool style. One of the highlights today was his heat against Christopher Kalk: both guys just 17 years old, showed their best freestyle windsurfing and made the decision for the judges not easy. In the end Dieter van der Eyken passed over Kalk, but got finally stopped by the routine of German rider Andre Paskowski. But he proofed his great talent and finished the double in the great 3rd position.

So everything was up for heat Nr. 35, the final heat of the day between current tourleader and winner of the single elimination Steven van Broeckhoven and Andre Paskowski. They both started their heat chasing each other through the upwind part of the heat area. Both had to pump hard because of the light wind. Race director Tom Hartmann and the judges decide to cancel this final. The wind was not strong enough. The race crew decided to wait for 15 minutes and to restart the heat. But the second try was even worse. At around 18.00h the double elimination was postponed to Friday morning.
