vapor 2010 12.0 which mast

Postby ingo » Wed Apr 07, 2010 2:37 pm

I have some problems to find the right mast for my Vapor 12.0 Technora. I think the mast I use (North 550 100% carbon) has to much top flex. The leech is very loose between the two upper battens compared to the battens below. The recommended setting is 584 cm , but it seems to give the sail not the required downhaul; 588 seems to be better.
My questions are:
Wich bentcurve and wich IMCS is needed.
Which battens has to fall down ; how to trim the sail (downhaul and outhaul).
Hope that one of the team members can answer, especially Ross has used the 12.0 in Formula!!

Well.... You should really try and use the Gaastra mast. They work the best in the sails. They are one of the cheapest and reliable mast on the market. Not sure of IMCS but you can find out on the website. As for trimming, i pull about 584 maybe 586 after the sail has stretched in a bit. Having a Gaastra mast will let you see the sail falling away from the boom equally. With top 2 battens looking pretty open. Don't worry to much about this. When you are on the water you should feel that its accelerating faster, free and in control this way. As for outhaul, i always apply and adjust as and when i get over powered. But for a rough guide, if i am not overpower heading up wind i let the sail just seat against the boom and down wind let the thing go completely.

hope this helps you.

hallo Ross,
would you please try to describe the difference with the "old" Vapor 2008 (12 mq) ?
Is the new one easier to make it planning?
Control?
Stability?
Speed?
Pointing?

thx

Hello,
I can try to answer this if it helps.
First of all the Vapor 12 08 and 09 are very good sails.
They are planning very fast have good speed and point like a beast. I personally had great results with this sails.
For me the only down point was the range of the sail as it was simply only a light wind power house.
So the main difference on the 2010 Vapor is that the range of the sail just got much bigger and this is just what we where looking for! The sail is much easer to hold due to the new clew system that gives great reales and helps you close the gap between the sail and board easer in the gust comparing to the 08 that would give you a bit to much back hand pressure.
The Vapor 2010 has more range also due to the fact it has a bigger luff sleeve.. this gives more stability and control and helps you hold the sail for a longer time in stronger winds.
I felt the 08 sail and 09 sail were planning great for me they where the best planning sails on the market. the 2010 plans the same but has more acceleration due the new clew system and finer entry profile which is a new and great feature on all new Vapor sail.
The finer entry gives more speed and freedom to the sail as well.
When I go free sailing with the new 12 no one is even close to out pointing me the pointing is unreal!
The last thing is I have both Vapor 12's 2010 in mono film and in technora and in the case of the 12M I would recommend the technora version this is just a dream sail!! I know its more expensive but this sail is just a machine!! and the technora is also lasting way longer so i think its worth the money.
Hope this helps,
BR,

Again, I please urge Bike Shop you to oppose Florida S318. The current
Concern law is working; it just needs more time to accomplish its mandate. This bill would have a large negative
me personally, and would be particularly damaging to the many breeders of RoC animals in the state of Florida.
Bike Store Additionally, the
negative consequences of S318 could potentially extend to greatly worsening the problem it was drafted to solve. The
Reptiles of Bike Trials Concern law, combined with the current efforts by
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and with help from Florida reptile breeders, is more than enough
the python problem in the Everglades.Bike Trial Seller
