Rigging Gaastra Pilot 6.5m

Postby RolyGardner » Wed Jul 28, 2010 2:48 pm

Hi There,

I wonder if someone could give me some tips on rigging my Pilot 6.5m please?

I am using my Fibrespar 60% carbon mast with 10 cm of extension. When I rig it i tend to get the leach "floppy" to the 3rd batten and put on as much out haul as necessary to release the battens from the mast so they will rotate properly. However, I have been told the the battens only need to sit about half way across the mast in order to be able to rotate. I am also told that small adjustments to the out haul can make a big difference to performance.

I generally feel that there is a lack of power from the sail. Sometimes it feels a bit "all or nothing" if you know what I mean.

Are there any rules of thumb that I might try in order to tune my sail properly?

All suggestions gratefully recieved.
